Pet Food Recall February 5, 2014

If any of you feed your dog or cat Hubbard Life or Joy Combo please read the following information from Food Safety news.  No need to panic.  You can just check your pet food package.  If your pet food has the Lot Code and UPC number keep an eye on your dog or cat.  If they show any signs of being ill call your vet and have them checked out.  Then call the number below.

 

photo (9)Ohio company Pro-Pet LLC has initiated a voluntary recall of dry dog and cat foods because of possible Salmonella contamination.

A single field test indicated that products manufactured during a two day period on a single production line may have the contamination. The recalled products include:

These products were distributed through select retailers, distributors and on-line consumer purchases in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

There have been no reports of illness related to the products to date. Consumers should immediately discontinue use of any impacted product and contact Pro-Pet at 1-888-765-4190 for disposition.
